WASHINGTON DC – September 1, 2025: The Command Purpose Foundation welcomes new Board Member Samuel “Bo” Mahaney, Major General, USAF (Ret.), and a man who currently wears many hats: Director of the Missouri S&T Armed Forces Research Institute, Missouri S&T Trustee & Professor of History, Political Science, and Leadership, and the President of Harvard Veterans Alumni Organization.

A decorated Air Force pilot and lifelong educator, Bo was inspired to join the Command Purpose board by a simple desire: to help. “I am most excited to help the organization help others, and seek resources so CP can broaden its reach,” he said.

Bo’s dream dinner guest? Harriet Tubman—a woman who redefined bravery as a fearless abolitionist, conductor on the Underground Railroad, spy, scout, nurse, and a Civil War hero. “She made around 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people, including her family and friends, using the Underground Railroad,” he explained. “She played a key role in the Combahee River Raid, where she helped free over 700 enslaved people, making her one of the first women to lead a military operation in U.S. history.” An incredible legacy, indeed.
