WASHINGTON DC – August 4, 2025: Next in The Command Purpose Foundation’s “Meet the Board” series is Karen Gibson, a retired Army Lieutenant General who brings more than 30 years of military leadership to the table.

Karen has been with CP since nearly the beginning, drawn by its unique ability to help veterans navigate the space between purpose and transition. “I know firsthand the challenges associated with leaving a highly structured organization like the military, which clearly defined your goals, priorities, and purpose, sometimes for decades! Through CP, I experienced the value of being guided through an introspective process to tease out my personal goals and objectives as part of a supportive community of like-minded veterans,” she shared.

One of her favorite moments has been the organization’s strategic goal-setting sessions, where vulnerability and candor of conversations are front and center. If she could share dinner with any historical woman veteran, it would be someone you might not think of: Amelia Earhart. “Can you think of a woman who lived a greater life of adventure and exploration, pursuing her personal goals to the fullest, regardless of whether they conformed to society’s expectations of what a woman can or should do? I can’t!” Karen said.
