Join Command Purpose for our June book club meeting! The goal of our book club is to read books that address issues facing the veteran women community and discuss how we can navigate through them to become our most authentic selves and align with our purpose in life after the military.
Summary: This book is about a woman before her time. The protagonist, Elizabeth Zott, is a chemist in the 1960s at Hastings Research Institute as part of an all-male team. Elizabeth Zott is a brilliant, free thinker that always stays true to her authentic self, no matter what the cost. When she finds herself a single mother and unemployed, she takes a job as the host of a cooking show that she transforms into America’s most beloved cooking show. She is not just a teaching women to cook, she is an innovator that dares women to challenge the status quo.
Why This Book? This book is about a woman who is fighting to be valued for her mind in a time when the societal roles for women were homemakers and mothers. She is fiercely loyal to her authentic self and a deep, free thinker that does not conform to what society tells her she should think and be. This book is about a mother, a wife in a marital partnership, and a woman who is a courageous innovator. Chemistry is abound, and not just in the laboratory at Hastings. Elizabeth Zott is the heroine we all need.
